When I am lucky enough to come across such a unique and beautiful item, I want to let the world know about it. Natalie’s Nook makes me want 6 more children just so I can dress them up in her beautiful crocheted baby sets. These sets are not the usual sets that you see when you think of “crocheted”. These sets are REALLY cute. Who could resist this precious hat and poncho set? And even baby boys will look smashing in a little sweater set. This is not Grandma’s crochet work. That’s for sure!

Natalie takes custom orders and also does unbelievable pencil portraits from your photos. Natalie makes gifts for all occasions!

istock_000004087812xsmall.jpgWhen I say subs I bet you’re thinking a big foot long sandwich with lots of “stuff” on it that you have for lunch. Right? Not when it’s cut up and arranged neatly on a platter. Then it’s party food!  You can make them fancy or plain. Almost everyone will eat them. There are so many varieties of subs that everyone is sure to find one that they like.

Subs are an excellent addition to the food table at a baby shower, especially if it’s being held in the afternoon.  Here is a list of some ideas that you can make a sub with. Of course you can pile them up with anything. Be sure to have a variety and leave the condiments on the side. Not everyone likes mayo or mustard.

Ham & Swiss

Turkey & Cheddar

Roast beef & American

Roast Pork, Ham & Swiss (Cuban)

Roast Beef, Genoa Salami & Provolone

Tuna Salad

Chicken Salad

Ham Salad

Egg Salad

Cucumber & Dill with Cream Cheese

Have you seen some of the diaper cakes that people are trying to sell online? There are a lot of really cute choices but there are some cakes that LOOK like they are made completely from dollar store items that they would have sold 15 or 20 years ago. Admit it. You know what I mean, don’t you! ;) You’ve seen the cakes and said “oh no” as you rolled your eyes.Today I want to talk about the good diaper cakes. We are in 2008. Let’s act like it! We want hip cakes, trendy cakes, adorable cakes. Here are a few examples of really cute diaper cakes:Modern Mum Diaper Cake
Baby Einstein Diaper Cake

Diaper cakes will make any table beautiful when used as a centerpiece. Mom will absolutely love all of the goodies that come attached as well. They can be made from cloth diapers or disposable diapers. Some people have even modified the diaper cake and made a onesie cake or blanket cake. You could use baby towels as well but really, how many towels does one baby need? As long as you can roll it and you have several items of the same size, I’d say that making a diaper cake would be a piece of cake! I love being creative and I hope that you have gotten some really good ideas for your diaper cake.

If your baby shower guests want to eat and not snack like little bunnies, I have a few food suggestions for you. These are really popular with the guys but some gals (like me) love them as well.

Dump a large package of small smoky sausage links into a saucepan and cover it with a bottle of bar-b-que sauce. Let it simmer while you prepare decorations or other foods.

Bake a large bag of chicken wing drumettes, plain on a cookie sheet. Dump them in a very large bowl with melted butter and Frank’s Red Hot Sauce following the measurements on the back of the bottle. Stir. You now have hot wings. be sure to serve celery sticks and ranch & blue cheese dressing on the side.

Wash approximately 6 medium potatoes and cut into large chunks with the skin on. Toss them in a gallon sized zipper storage bag. Add 2-3 tbsp. of extra virgin olive oil. Zip and shake until coated. Add a packet of ranch dressing mix or a few tsp. of seasoned salt. Zip and shake again. Spread onto a cookie sheet and bake until golden brown and tender, approx. 30-45 min.

I prefer to use a silicone baking pad with the potatoes and chicken wings so they don’t stick and we don’t have as much clean up.

Playing some fun baby shower games can really make sure the
celebration you throw is fun and exciting. You can use baby
shower games to add a little spice to any gathering and help
your guests get acquainted and feel at ease with one another.

Below you will find descriptions of five baby shower games you
can play at the next baby shower you host.

Fun Facts

If your guests know one another fairy well you can try this
game.

As each guest arrives, ask them to write a fact about themselves
that few people know. This may could a hidden talent, a previous
job, or a movie appearance. The papers are collected, folder and
placed in a jar.

Each guest will pick one sheet of paper and, after making sure
it is not their own, try to guess which guest is being described.

You could also play the game by having the host read each of the
facts and have all of the guests try to guess the person.

Sing It, Baby!

In this game the guests form a circle - they can sit or stand -
then, in turn, each guest must sing a line or two from a song
that has the word “baby” in it. When the first player has
finished, the person on her right has ten seconds to sing
another “baby” song. “Baby” songs cannot be repeated. Any player
who repeats a song or cannot think of a “baby” song leaves the
game. Last person singing in this baby game shower wins the
prize!

Baby True or False

This baby game shower is for those who love baby trivia. Before
the shower, Write down some baby trivia ‘facts’, some with
correct and others purposely written incorrectly. Read out each
‘fact/ and if the baby ‘facts’ are either true or false. The
first person to call out the correct answer gets a prize.

The Name Game

Ask your guests to choose two names for the baby and to write
the names on a piece of paper. Have each person find as many
words of three or more letters that can be made from the letters
in those names. Give the guests a time limit, for example two
minutes, to write down their words.

If you ask your guests not to say the names they have chosen out
loud, you add a twist by having the other players try to guess
the original names selected.

Example: Catherine Lynn Nice - cat - the - then - they - care -
liar - yet - lather

Example: Brandon Michael And ” brand - land - clone -
blame - lace - lame - carbon

Mother Goose Game

This baby shower game can be played by all of the guests. Choose
several lines from different nursery rhymes and write them down
omitting one word from each. Provide each guest with paper and
pencil. Read these lines to the guests remembering to omit the
word. The guests will try to guess what is the missing word in
the nursery rhyme and write down the answer. When all the rhymes
have been read, the person who has the most correct answer wins.

These are but a few of the many baby shower games that you can
play to keep the next baby shower you host interesting and fun.

Pampered feet, pedicureMost pregnant women can’t see their feet, let alone try to take care of them. What would be more special for the mom-to-be than a pamper party? This type of baby shower is for the mom who is prepared with all of the baby necessities and would only like to invite a few close friends.

Call around to your local spas and see what type of packages they can offer you. Some do pregnant massage or you could stick with facials or a pedicure-manicure package.

You may be allowed to go ahead of time and do some decorating. This would not be the time to bring out the ducky plates. Elegant flowers or solid balloons will suffice. Make sure that there are plenty of relaxing candles and some mood music as well.

Food can be as simple as sparkling water and a sampling of cheese and fruit. These She’ll Soon See Her Feet Again- Pedicure Kits make perfect baby shower favors for this type of party.

“What about gifts?” you ask. Aha! Take one guess. Shower her with Pampers, of course! Have each guest purchase a different size so there aren’t to many of the same.

Relax & enjoy!

There is no better crowd pleasing drink (non-alcoholic, anyways) as punch. My absolute favorite and oh-so-easy punch is just perfect to feed a thirsty baby shower crowd. You can also color coordinate your punch with your baby shower theme.

Here’s the recipe…ready?

So Easy A Baby Could Make It- Crowd Pleasing Punch

Ingredients:

half gallons of Sherbet, any flavor

2 ltr. bottle of Lemon-Lime flavored soda such as 7-Up or Sprite

The amount of sherbet and soda that you will need will depend on the number of people you are feeding. For a small crowd (8-10)I like to have 2 blocks of sherbet and 2 or more bottles of soda. You can always serve the extra soda seperately.

Directions: (Follow along now. This gets tricky.)

Unwrap cardboard from entire block of sherbet and set in large container. (We’ll talk more about this in a bit.) Pour 1 bottle of soda over block of sherbet. Serve.

It’s really not at all as hard as it sounds. ;) Here are some creative ways to spruce up your punch.

Color coordinate your punch with different flavors of sherbet. Raspberry will obviously turn pink for a girls theme. Pineapple can be used for a gender neutral theme or if you are just looking for that exotic flavor.

Scoop the sherbet into balls if you have a little extra time and let them float around the soda. If you choose this method, you can use different flavors and mix up the colors. Doesn’t pineapple mango sound really good!?

Toss the punch bowl and use an interesting container such as a bath tub, small (unused) diaper pail or a cute plastic wastebasket(new) that matches baby’s nursery.

Add some floaties. By that I mean those cute little plastic ice cubes, rubber ducks or other bath toys.

Don’t forget the ladle!

I’ve never met a shower hostess who didn’t run around like a crazy woman cleaning her house before the guest arrived. Sure there are those whose house always looks meticulous, but many houses get the deep clean only when company arrives.

The house is clean, that’s a given but the real Piece de Resistance is when the guests walk in and rave about how adorable the decorations look. Yes. You have done well, my friend.

Ah the pressure, the pressure. Relax; decorating for a shower doesn’t need to be a big deal. If you know the baby’s gender then blue or pink will be the color du jour. If you don’t know, then pretty pastels work well too.

Take a trip to your favorite party supply store and you’ll have no problem coming up with decorations. Crepe paper, balloons cardboard cut-outs abound in these types of stores. You can never go wrong with streamers and balloons. You don’t even need to tape balloons to anything – just merely have them spread across the floor for a festive look.

If you decide on a particular theme, that will make decorating easy… just follow suit. If the theme is simply baby, then you have many choices. You can make or buy banners to hang either inside or outside. Hang balloons from the mailbox to make it easier for guests to find the party place.

Don’t’ forget party plates, napkins and cups. Cake tastes so much better on cute little baby themed plates rather than on your fine china or paper plates, don’t you agree? While you’re at it, don’t forget a table cloth. Not only does it tie the whole look together, it makes for easy clean up.

You may want to decorate a “throne” for mom. Take your biggest, most comfortable chair (but one that she can get out of relatively easily.) and decorate it with streamers and balloons. For an added touch give her a crown to wear.

Sure you want your guests to walk into a beautifully decorated room, but more importantly they will be walking into a room full of love and cheerfulness. If you met in a field with folding lawn chairs they would be just as happy.
