Cute Invitations to Purchase

Some people who receive baby shower invitations groan at the thought of going to another uneventful shower.  To plan a baby shower that will stand out from all the rest, you want an invitation that will surprise and bring a smile to your guest’s face even before she gets to the party.  Here are some creative ways to send off those invitations which will make it hard for your guests to decline.

Baby Bottle Invitations

Purchase some baby bottles and place some confetti inside.  Print out your party information on a piece of paper and roll it up, then tie a little ribbon around it.  Place the rolled invitation in the bottle and it’s ready to go.  You could also put some ribbon around the neck of the bottle.

Balloon Invitation

Purchase some balloons and print out party information on paper.  Roll the invitation and place inside deflated balloon.  Tie a tag with ribbon to the end of the balloon with instructions to blow up the balloon and pop for a special surprise.

Onesie Invitation

Buy some plain white onesies and write the invite right on the onesie with a permanent marker.  You can also decorate it however you would like, let your imagination go with this one.

Rattle or Pacifier Invitation

Purchase some rattles or pacifiers and tie the invitation with ribbon to the rattle or pacifier.  The guests can either bring the rattle or pacifier to the party and give it to the mother-to-be or keep it for themselves.

Rubber Ducky Invitation

Buy little yellow rubber ducks and tie a ribbon to their necks with the invitation attached.  You can use a hole puncher to punch a hole on the invitation to attach the ribbon.

Picture Invitation

Try and get a baby picture of the mother and use that in your invitation.  You can get a 4x6 cardstock and place the picture on the front, decorate it how ever you would like and place the shower information on the back.  You can make the picture antique by either taking it to a photo center or on your computer.  You can also use a current picture of the mother-to-be as the picture for the invitation.  Or you can use the baby’s ultrasound picture if available (just make sure to make a copy and that no personal information is shown).

Make a CD Invitation

Create a CD of baby themed music for your guests and design the cover of the CD with your party information.  You can buy a kit that will include software, paper and the tool to make CD covers at any electronics/computer software store.

Boxed Invitation

Print out your invitation on 3x5 or smaller decorated cards.  Purchase small card boxes and place invitation inside.  You can even fill the box with candy or confetti.  You can also use ribbons to decorate on either the cards or the box.  When your guests receive the invite they will already be excited because it will feel like someone sent them a gift.

Candy bar Invitation

There are many companies on the internet that will personalize candy bars. Many times they are able to make the personalization in the format of an invitation.

Fortune Cookie Invitation

There are also companies that will custom make fortune cookies.  They will place your party information on the fortune paper inside of the cookie.

Baby Sock/Bootie/Mitten Invitation

Print shower information on paper, fold or roll the paper and place inside of the baby sock, bootie or mitten.  You can then place it inside of the envelope.

Baby Booties

Attach baby booties, socks etc. to your invitation.  It will give it that extra special touch.

Animals

You can usually find little stuffed animals at craft stores or party stores.  You can buy some that match your theme and attach one to each invitation.

Trial Size Accents

You can buy little trial sized diaper creams, baby soaps etc. and attach those as well to your invitation.  The diaper cream would go especially cute with a diaper invitation.

Digiscrapping Baby Shower Invitations

You can create professional looking baby shower invitations just by using your computer and printer. Digital scrapbooking has become widely popular over the last few years. Many have dropped their papers, scissors and glue to create all of their scrapbook pages digitally. Not only are people making pages of memories but they are also creating beautiful cards. Many websites devoted to digital scrapbooking have kits, papers, embellishments and other useful tools for free to promote their designers and website. So if you are on a budget, it is easy to find some kits that will help you get started. For this tutorial, Photoshop Elements 5.0 will be used. You can find this program in any software store or online. If you have a different graphics program, you may be able to take some of the steps here and transform them to work with your program. You can visit FreeDigitalScrapbooking.com and download some of the free files they have on their site. Save all of these files on your desktop for now, it will make it easier to find. This tutorial will use the Baby Bugs Collection from FreeDigitalScrapbooking.com.

1. Open Photoshop Elements 5.0.
2. Go to File and click New and then click Blank file.
3. Change size to 4 width and 6 height or whatever size you want the invitation. You may have to change the units to inches since it may be on pixels. Make sure the resolution is set to 300 (this will make the image clear when printed). Then press ok and a new window should appear with your blank image.
4. Go to File and Open.
5. Navigate to the desktop and double click on your background you downloaded off the freescrapbooking.com website. A new window should come up with the background.
6. Once opened, press ctrl+a to select the background and the ctrl+c to copy it.
7. Go back to the original window with the blank image and click on the window, and then press ctrl+v to paste your background and you should see that it’s covered your blank image.
8. Now follow this same step to open up your block embellishments. Go to File and click on Open. Find your block embellishment, open it and a new window should come up. Press ctrl+a and ctrl+a to copy it.
9. Go back to your working image and then press ctrl+v to paste the embellishment onto your image.
10. To resize the image, click on the image and then go to the left upper corner of the selected image. You will see that the arrow changes to a double arrow click and resize the image down.
11. Repeat steps 10-12 two more times until you have the B and C embellishment on your working image. You can move blocks simply by clicking on them and dragging them to where you want them.
12. For the ribbon embellishment, go to File, click Open, and find ribbon file. Go to selection tool which is a dotted square image on the left hand side toolbar. Select the ribbon you want to use by placing the selection around the ribbon, then clicking back on the move arrow (top tool on left side toolbar) then press ctrl+c to copy. Go back to your working image and press ctrl+v to paste. You may want to resize the ribbon and move it around.
13. Now you can type in your information. Click on the text tool and choose your font, size and color.
14. Another thing you can do to make some of your embellishments pop is use some of the special effects that come with your program. For the blocks in the example invitation, a layer style was used called Simple Sharp bevel along with a Low drop shadow. For the ribbons, the layer style used is a Simple outer glow.

These steps may be intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is really a great way to make some creative and beautiful invitations. There are many scrapbooking sites with designers of all types and styles. So play around with some different kits, embellishments, and fonts until you find the perfect one for your baby shower theme.

Inexpensive Invitation Ideas

The invitation is the first glimpse your guests will have into the baby shower you are hosting.  Depending on your style and theme, your invitation will show what kind of party you will be throwing for your loved one.  Finding nice, creative and unique invitations can sometimes be a budget buster.  Here are some ways you can make your own invitations at a fraction of the cost but just as lovely and special.

Diaper Invitations

Cut out triangles from construction paper.  Write invitation information on one side of the triangle and fold it like a diaper.  Place a diaper pin on the outside as a decoration.

Building Blocks Invitation

Cut out three squares from construction paper (whatever color you like).  Either write or cut out three letters from construction paper (A,B,C),  place each letter on each block and then glue or tape blocks together.  Write your shower information on the back.

Bubble Gum Cigar

Buy some gum cigars from either a party store or craft store and place tag on each one with the party information.

Baby Bib Invitation

Cut out baby bib shapes from paper and decorate with shower information on the front.

Baby Bottle Invitation

Cut out baby bottles out of cardstock or other type of paper and write information on the front.

Stork Invitation

You can find cut outs of storks in your local craft store.  Use the cut outs to make your own storks and decorate any way you choose.  You can write your information on the stork itself or on the “bundle of joy” it is carrying.

Baby Feet Invitation

Borrow a baby OR make faux baby feet.  Make a loose fist and stamp the pinky finger side of your fist on paper.  Then place some small dabs above your footprint to make the “toes”.  You can sprinkle some glitter on them to give them an extra touch.

Simple Yet Sophisticated

Browse your local craft store for cardstock stationary or any type will work just fine. Choose a font on your computer’s word processor or find a new one on the internet and type up your invitation information. Print it out on the stationary and you’re done. You can really make these look professional by trying different fonts and paper. You can also add accents such as ribbon and bows.

Scrapbook Type Invitation

Visit the craft store and look over their scrapbooking section.  They will have many stickers, papers, and embellishments devoted to baby showers and babies in general.  You can create your own work of art by picking out exactly what you would like to see on the invitation.

Shower during the Holidays

If you are having the shower near the holidays and would like to include the holiday in the theme of the shower you can shop around for holiday cards with pictures of babies on them.  Sometimes you can find Halloween, Christmas or Easter cards with pictures of real babies on them and you just have to edit the inside information.

If you are having the shower in the spring you can use plastic eggs usually used for Easter egg hunts.  Just print out your information on a small piece of paper and place inside of the egg.  You will have to purchase padded envelopes to mail them or they will be crushed.  The egg can symbolize two things, springtime and how the baby is about to be “hatched”.

Internet Printable Invitations

There are some internet sites where you can print out free invitations on your own printer.  They are already designed for you and all you do is put in your information.  Two sites that have this are: Invitation Land and A Baby Shower Idea.

Send E-Cards

It is appropriate to send baby shower invites through e-mail.  Just make sure you have the correct e-mail addresses for your guests and that they check their e-mail regularly.  There are sites on the internet where you can choose the E-Card and then guests can check off if they would like to attend.

Professional Vellum Invitation

You can find this invitation for sale on the internet and it really is simple to make on your own.  First buy some cardstock in the color you want for your invitation.  Then buy some white paper and some vellum paper.  Type out the invitation wording on your computer and print it on the white paper.  Next layer the papers, take the paper you printed the invite on and place on top of colored cardstock, then place vellum paper on top of the invitation paper.  Staple all three papers at the top and then glue a bow on top of the staple to hide it.  It’s as simple as that and a lot less expensive.

Graphically Design it Yourself

Most computers come with a graphics program which you can use clipart, fonts, and borders to make a very attractive invitation.  Then all you have to do is buy the paper and print them out.
